The Victorian Government is investing $1 billion in TAFE and training – driving economic recovery and giving Victorians the skills they need to get back into the workforce. The below initiatives will help support more Victorians to train, retrain and find new opportunities, including:
JobTrainer - The Victorian Government has partnered with the Commonwealth Government to jointly invest up to $260 million under the JobTrainer Fund to increase access to training for thousands of Victorians who have been most impacted by the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis. Eligible students can access free or low fee (concession) qualifications and skill sets within key industries and occupations. In early 2021, the JobTrainer list will be updated to reflect skill sets available under JobTrainer. Be sure to check back regularly for updates.
Free TAFE - The Victorian Government has invested in making priority TAFE courses and pre-apprenticeship courses in priority workforce areas tuition free. Free TAFE for priority courses reduces financial barriers for students. Students can train in courses that lead to jobs in demand from Victorian employers.
Construction Industry Skill Sets (CISS) - Free short accredited training courses to help people impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic re-skill and find work in the construction industry.
Working for Victoria – Free online training available to help you change or update your skills to work in areas that are now hiring. You can do a Free TAFE course that leads to a recognised qualification in an industry where Victorian employers are likely to be looking for employees as the economy recovers.
Cross-Sector Infection Control Skill Set (CSICSS) - Workers in businesses where COVID-safe practices are vital can enrol in free training in identifying and managing the risk of Coronavirus (COVID-19). The courses will support businesses to reopen safely and continue to control the outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19) across Victoria.
Introduction to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)- The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is the new way of providing support for Australians with disability, their families and carers.
What courses are on offer through these programs?
Chisholm is offering over 50 free or subsidised courses and skillsets through the above schemes, across areas identified as having a genuine skills need and employment growth, such as health and community services, construction, financial services, IT, and hairdressing and beauty services.
