The Dam Operations Program has been designed in consultation with industry and is aimed at developing water industry staff to inspect, monitor and report on dam operations.

The five-day program involves interactive face to face workshops, field work and workplace assessment tasks. Participants will have the opportunity to spend a day in the field inspecting and reporting on both an embankment and concrete dam.

With a world-renowned expert facilitating this program, participants will get an opportunity to explore topics including but not limited to:
• dam background sizing, types, design and construction, dam risks, lessons from dam incidents, legal issues, legislation, Australian National Committee on Large Dams (ANCOLD), Work Health and Safety (WH&S), surveillance plans, dam operations
• embankment dam inspection, dam monitoring, dam maintenance planning, outlet works design, Operations and Maintenance (O&M) and review
• concrete dam inspection, basic hydrology and hydraulics, spillways design and O&M, dam security, DSEP access, miscellaneous-seismic, material science and review.

Participants who successfully complete the program will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment with the following competencies from the Dam Operations Skill Set (NWPSS00004):

• NWPSOU022 Monitor and control dam operations
• NWPSOU023 Monitor and implement dam maintenance
• NWPSOU024 Inspect and report on concrete dam safety
• NWPSOU025 Inspect and report on embankment dam safety
• NWPSOU029 Conduct and report dam safety instrumentation monitoring

The five units of competency count towards the nationally recognised Certificate III in Water Industry Operations (NWP30215) offered by Chisholm.
